Silver Mounted Pistols, circa 1760
Offered is a very fine "untouched" pair of cased pistols, circa 1760. The mountings: butt cap, trigger guard, side-plates and thimbles are sculpted coin silver. The high quality functional locks are in original flintlock condition, with sliding rear safety's and strong mainsprings. The triggers are adjustable "single-set" mechanisms and work perfectly. The 10 3/4 inch, .50 caliber sighted barrels are finished in the white, and show little wear or discoloration. The figured walnut stocks are heavily carved with bold relief carving behind the tang, at the re-entry thimble and around the finial of the trigger guard. The forstocks have fluted moldings along the ram-rod channel and a beaded upper molding along the barrel. The ramrods are wooden with horn tips. The pistols and accessories are housed in their original crotch grain mahogany, green baize lined case, with hand forged iron fittings and two corner compartments with turned cow horn pulls. It is complete with original accessories including: bronze powder flask, scissors-type bullet mold with case hardened steel surfaces and sprue-cutter, and a forged iron "T" handle cleaning rod. The spiral cleaning "worm" is stored in the handle of a multi purposed tool. This tool alone is a work of art, encompassing a screw screw driver, flint knapper, cock tool, vent pick and cleaning worm all stored within it. It's grip is from the same wood used to stock the pistols. This set is All Original and in working order, showing only expected signs of use and wear.
