John Snider Rifle
This is a delightful little rifle signed, John Snider. Well designed and executed, it is decorated with a mixture of silver and brass inlay and relief carving. Brass inlays are found surrounding the barrel tang, on either side of the wrist, the feather hole, comb plate, along the cheekpiece edge and a wonderfully engraved wear plate under the forearm with heart shaped fineals . There are 13 silver inlays, the biggest of which is an engraved hunters moon in the cheekpiece. High relief carving is found both behind and in front of the cheekpiece, and the fluted forstock molding terminates into a nice spiral design at the rear entry pipe. From the collection of Joe Kindig Jr, the 42 3/4 inch rifled barrel is about .42 caliber and the rifle measures 59 inches overall.
